My name is Starlia Phillips and I live and work in and around Cedar Park, Texas. I began my art career at age 11 in oil paints after my mother saw some of my drawings. I studied under several artists in my early years. Then in 1997 I moved to Austin, Texas where I met master artist Bettie Ritchie. I studied under Bettie's watchful eye for 3 1/2 years soaking up as much training as I could. In 2002 I started to create jewelry for myself and took several classes at Nomadic Notions in Austin. There I saw unbelievable lampwork beads and wondered how they were made. After reading all I could get my hands on creating lampwork beads I finally purchased a Hothead torch, didymium glasses, and supplies in May 2003. Since June 2003 I read books and watched videos and taught myself how to make beads. In May 2004 I took my very first lampworking class with Jennifer Geldard. Since 2005 I have had the great fortune to be teaching in my home studio and now at the Creative Side of Austin. Take a look at my schedule to see what classes are available or if you have a class idea please send me an email. ![]() Trinkett is my constant companion and muse. Trinkett goes everywhere with me and is rarely away from my side. When I am working Trinkett knows she is not allowed in the work area. Now that I have moved into the house Trinkett has her doggy tent set up where glass will not pop and hit her. She takes long naps while I'm working or plays with her babies (stuffed animals) in the hallway.
